Before you call
Water is leaking. What do I do until you get here?
Turn off the water at your main shut-off valve, usually where the water line comes into the house in the basement, crawlspace or garage. If it won't close, or the water is coming from the street, call Castle Rock Water's emergency line at 720-733-6000 (press 1 after hours). Then call or text Pat.
What areas do you work in?
Castle Rock, and only Castle Rock. Pat works in town and nowhere else.
Who answers when I call?
Pat does. Customers describe him picking up himself or calling back within minutes, with no call center in between.
Can I text instead of calling?
Yes. Text Pat what's going on, with your address and a photo if you have one. Customers describe quick replies by text.
Should I send a photo first?
It helps. A photo lets Pat see the problem, give you a price and bring the right parts, so the job can be done in one trip.
Can I get a price before the work starts?
Ask for one when you call or text. Customers describe getting a quote up front: over the phone, from a photo, or after Pat looks at the job in person.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Pat Wertin is a Colorado master plumber, license MP.030001342, and Affordable Plumber CO LLC is a registered Colorado plumbing contractor, PC.0004860, and is insured. You can check both licenses on DORA's license lookup.
Verify on DORA →Do you work on furnaces, air conditioning or heating?
No. Pat is a plumber and doesn't work on furnaces, air conditioning or heating systems.
How Pat works
Will the final bill match the quote?
That's what customers describe, and a few say it came in lower. They also describe Pat telling them up front where extra costs could come in.
Will Pat try to sell me things I don't need?
Customers say no, and many mention it as the thing that surprised them. When he spots something else, he explains it, gives you the price and lets you decide.
Will Pat repair it, or tell me I need a new one?
He tries the repair first when that will do: a missing part, a cleaned filter, an adjustment. When replacing makes more sense, customers describe him explaining both options and letting them choose.
Will he tell me if nothing needs fixing?
Yes. Several customers describe Pat checking, finding nothing wrong and telling them so, or sorting it out with advice on the phone.
Can Pat help over the phone?
Sometimes a call is all it takes. Customers describe Pat talking them through a pilot light, a clogged toilet and a sprinkler start-up without a visit.
Will he explain what's wrong?
Customers mention it often. Pat explains the problem and the fix in plain terms, and how to keep it from happening again.
Will I know when he's on the way?
Customers describe a text the day before to confirm, and another when Pat is heading over, with a time.
Will he clean up afterwards?
Customers mention it again and again. Several say he left the area cleaner than he found it.
Does Pat do the work himself?
Yes. Affordable Plumber CO LLC is Pat's business, and customers describe the owner doing the work himself, sometimes with a helper.
Does he follow up after the job?
Customers describe Pat calling a day later to check in, answering questions afterwards, and coming back when a part failed.
If something else is wrong, will he point it out?
Customers describe Pat showing them things to keep an eye on. Anything beyond the job you called about is your decision.
Can Pat recommend someone for drywall or water damage?
Pat is a plumber, so he fixes the leak. Customers describe him recommending people he trusts for the drywall, tile or water damage it leaves behind.
My house is fairly new. Why am I having plumbing problems?
Many Castle Rock customers with newer homes describe builder-installed parts failing early: plastic push-pull shut-offs, supply lines, water heaters and toilets. Pat replaces them with sturdier parts, such as quarter-turn valves and braided supply lines.
Valves and water pressure →Can Pat fix the items on my home inspection?
Yes. Customers buying or selling a home describe Pat fixing the plumbing items on the inspection, and urgent repairs before closing.
Are Pat's prices fair?
That's how most customers describe them. Every job is different, so call or text for a price on yours.
Water heaters
My water heater is leaking. Can it be repaired, or does it need replacing?
It depends on what's leaking. Customers describe Pat fixing the part when that will do, such as an expansion tank or a valve, and replacing the tank when it has failed, with both options explained.
Water heaters →Can you switch me from electric to gas, or move my water heater?
Customers describe Pat swapping an electric tank for a larger gas one, changing to a power vent model, and moving a water heater with its gas and water lines redone.
Water heaters →My pilot light won't stay lit. Can you help?
Customers describe Pat walking them through a relight over the phone, and coming out to explain repair or replacement when that didn't work.
Water heaters →Leaks and broken pipes
A pipe burst in the cold. What should I do?
Shut off the water at the main valve first, then call or text Pat. Customers describe him fitting in burst pipes on cold days and explaining on the phone what happened before he arrived.
Leaks and broken pipes →Will you have to tear open my wall to fix a leak?
Customers describe Pat finding the source first and cutting a small, clean opening to reach it. Some leaks need more room than others.
Leaks and broken pipes →Do you replace sump pumps?
Yes. Customers describe Pat replacing failed sump pumps, with a temporary fix first when water was coming in, and adding alarms.
Leaks and broken pipes →Toilets, faucets and fixtures
Can my toilet be fixed, or does it need replacing?
Customers describe Pat adjusting it or replacing the worn parts first, and replacing the toilet when it can't be fixed. A photo inside the tank helps him bring the right parts.
Faucets, toilets and fixtures →Can you install a smart toilet, or several toilets at once?
Customers describe Pat installing a smart toilet and replacing four toilets in one job.
Faucets, toilets and fixtures →My faucet drips. Do I need a new one?
Not always. Customers describe Pat finding the worn or missing part and fixing the faucet they have, and replacing it when that's the better choice.
Faucets, toilets and fixtures →Do you fix shower valves, or only replace them?
Both. Customers describe cartridge repairs and full valve replacements, with Pat straight about whether the bigger job is needed.
Faucets, toilets and fixtures →Will you look at a jetted or jacuzzi tub?
Yes. Customers describe Pat finding the leak in jetted and jacuzzi tubs that other companies wouldn't look at.
Faucets, toilets and fixtures →Drains and disposals
My drain keeps clogging. Can you stop it coming back?
Customers describe Pat clearing the clog, adjusting the drain where the setup caused it, and showing them how to keep it clear.
Drains and disposals →Should I repair or replace my garbage disposal?
Customers describe both: clearing a jam, fixing a bad setup, or replacing a leaking unit, often with the piping under the sink improved at the same time.
Drains and disposals →Valves and water pressure
Can you replace the plastic shut-off valves the builder put in?
Yes. Customers describe Pat swapping builder-installed push-pull plastic shut-offs and supply lines for quarter-turn valves and braided hoses.
Valves and water pressure →My pipes bang, or my water pressure is off. What fixes it?
Often the pressure reducing valve. Customers describe Pat diagnosing it from a call or a photo, replacing the valve, and sometimes finding there was nothing to fix.
Valves and water pressure →My water meter clicks or seems wrong. Is that you or the Town?
It may be the Town's meter rather than your plumbing. Customers describe Pat suggesting they contact Castle Rock Water first, before paying for a repair.
Valves and water pressure →Outdoor and freeze damage
My outside faucet split after a freeze. Can it be fixed without tearing up the wall?
Customers describe Pat replacing freeze-split hose bibs through a small opening, and explaining how to avoid it next winter.
Outdoor and freeze damage →My sprinkler backflow or vacuum breaker cracked over winter. Do you replace those?
Yes. Customers describe Pat replacing frozen vacuum breakers and backflow preventers and fixing irrigation leaks.
Outdoor and freeze damage →Installs and remodels
Can you hook up a dishwasher, fridge water line or washer?
Customers describe Pat installing a dishwasher, running a new refrigerator water line, fixing a fridge valve and hooking up laundry units.
Installs and remodels →Do you do the plumbing for remodels, like a new vanity or a kitchen?
Customers describe Pat installing vanities, turning a single sink into a double, and plumbing a kitchen renovation and a barn.
