When to call Pat

  • An outside faucet that leaks inside the wall, or only when the hose is on.
  • A sprinkler backflow preventer or vacuum breaker that cracked over winter.
  • Irrigation lines that leak at start-up.
  • A pipe that froze or burst in the cold.

How Pat handles it

Pat replaces a split hose bib through as small an opening as he can, and fixes why it split: a spigot that can’t drain, a hose left on through a freeze. For sprinklers, he replaces cracked backflow preventers and vacuum breakers and fixes the leaks around them.

Not every outdoor job is urgent. Pat is straight about that, and puts a leak that is flooding a basement ahead of a spigot that can wait.

Before the next freeze

Disconnect your hoses before the first hard freeze, and drain your sprinkler system. A hose left on a spigot can freeze the pipe behind it, inside the wall, where you won’t see the damage until spring.
